How Did You Begin Your Career in the Commercial Lending Industry?
Capron was introduced to real estate and lending in college when she worked part-time for a mortgage company, answering phones. Little did she know this job would spark a passion that evolved into her lifetime profession.
Gaining experience early in her career in loan operations, she developed a solid understanding of the lending process and risk management before turning to production.
That was her start in the residential industry. She stayed in the residential sector for most of her career, however, over the last five to seven years, she has begun seeking change. Capron says she was looking for a new challenge and “wanted to try something new… Commercial lending and Innovative Capital have been on my radar.”
How Did You Find Innovative Capital Corporation?
Travis Linkert, CEO of Innovative Capital, played a large role in Capron’s introduction and transition to the Innovative Capital team.
“In any industry, relationships are everything. Travis actually was a customer of mine for several years, and we did a lot of business together,” says Capron. “We knew how each other operated, and when he steered his business in a different direction more towards commercial, he had opened the door for me a long time ago.”
Travis prompted Capron to join Innovative Capital, often. At the time, however, Capron explains she wasn’t in a place to make the switch. To her, making the decision to join the Innovative Capital team was all about timing.
“I’d always looked at it, was always watching, when might be the right time, and because timing is everything and relationships are the most valuable component in business in general, I started talking to Travis a little more seriously about that.”
She made the leap to join Inn Cap when the timing was just right. When the last of her children were heading off to college, she gained the freedom and opportunity to make a shift in her career.
Here’s what Capron had to say when asked how she feels about making the change to Innovative Capital: “It was very exciting! I think COVID taught me a lot too about what I wanted and what I didn’t want.” She continued. “Certainly, with product compression, I needed to be in an industry or a side of the industry where I had more opportunities and larger scope of opportunity with products, to do deals and transactions, and to support my customers.”
What Drew You to Innovative Capital?
Integrity.
Capron’s experience working with Travis throughout the years, and his integrity helped make the decision to move to our team that much easier.
Additionally, she added that one of the things that attracted her to Innovative Capital was the size of the company. “While small, they project a very boutique style relationship and philosophy. I fit into that very well and think this is really prudent and a critical thing for me to align myself with.”
She continued. “Because the perceptions that maybe some people have about finance and lending have been negative, and certainly over the last decade, I think that’s improved. Innovative Capital has a very high standard of who they work with and how they operate… I think the company demonstrates they have overcome any negative perceptions there might be in the industry, and I’m happy to be associated and aligned with that.”
How Has the Transition to Innovative Capital Been for You?
Starting a new job along with stepping into a new industry are challenges that Capron met with ease and grace. Relying on experience, knowledge, and instinct, we have seen her immediately take care to deliver reliable lending support.
Capron explained her experience transitioning to our team as a very natural transition. “I see so much opportunity from what I did before to what I’m going to be doing now in my new role.”
She finished with this: “What thrills me is to be able to go back to some of my original clients that I’ve had for several years and teach them about the opportunities that they can have in this area of expertise—they can be a part of it as well… Then, going to another new level with them parallel with my career really is a very exciting thing. I look forward to reaching out to them and sharing my new role and bringing them on board with me.”
We are so lucky to have you onboard, Shelley. Welcome to the team!
